The Winter Queen

When the air is sharp and clear,
And all the world lies still,
The Winter Queen sends her children,
To enact her icy will.

To gild with purest silver,
The eaves and boughs and blades,
To conjure crisp and bitter winds,
That shiver 'cross the skin of babes.

When come the Frostkin in the night,
Maids and men both quake with fear,
For the Winter Queen lacks mercy,
And cares not what man holds dear.

So hearken, children, gather 'round,
The wicked Frostkin draw nigh,
They hunger for the breath of life,
That from your lips you sigh.
